Age Range: Children
Period: 8th C
Ninny, an 8th century boy, leaves with the people he has grown up with when their land is flooded. Their boat takes them eventually to a land where several peoples live, which turns out to be Britain. Ninny witnesses the final battle between Arthur and Mordred and eventually learns of his own (undistinguished) ancestry.
A lightweight and humorous children's story, with references to nursery rhymes, cricket, legends such as Beowulf and Arthur, all of which may or may not be accurate or anachronistic, but all add to the pleasure of reading.
