The Lake at the End of the World
Style: Weak
Attitude: Unobjectionable
Age Range: Young Teens
Period: Future
Genres: SciFi
Synopsis:
Set in 2025 in a post-ecological holocaust Australia (we assume). Diana and her parents have survived on a smallholding near a lake. Hector and 100 others have survived in a cave system since 1975, fearing nuclear war. Hector comes outside, discovers that there is no disease or poison and meets Diana. They manage to free the underground survivors from the tyrannical counsellor, at the same time preventing the lake from being fouled by their toxic waste.
Notes:
Little more than a boy-meets-girl meets post-disaster story. There is the usual fascination of a near future world ravaged by toxic waste and nuclear debris, coupled with a very thin strand of intrigue in the shape of the underground dwellers, led by the counsellor.
